And earn a Free Ticket to Six Flags
About Program
Read to Succeed is a free educational program sponsored by Six Flags to inspire kids in grades K through 6 to engage in recreational reading. Students who complete six hours of recreational, nonschool-related reading are eligible to earn a free admission ticket to a participating Six Flags theme park. Teachers whose classes participate and complete the program are also eligible to earn a free ticket. Schools must be within a 250-mile radius of a participating Six Flags theme park in order to participate.
Teachers and Coordinators
To get started, teachers and coordinators should register online to be sure they are notified of important program dates. Every school needs one volunteer coordinator who will eventually receive and distribute the school's free Six Flags tickets. Teachers should then download the parent letter and student reading log to distribute to their students, who can begin reading at any time!
Beginning in January 2012, teachers will be able to enter the student reading hours online. If a school chooses, the coordinator can also input student hours on behalf of their teachers. Once all reading hours have been logged, the teacher or coordinator can submit their ticket request. All submissions must be received by February 27, 2012.
Parents
Parents are a key component of Read to Succeed, as they can encourage their students to read recreationally. Parents should help their students keep track of their reading hours and are asked to verify their children's reading logs at the end of the program.
Students
It is each student's job to take the time to read for fun! Students can choose a genre that they like to read or be adventurous and try something new. If students are reading without a parent, they should remember to keep track of their time and reading materials, so a parent can sign their reading logs before it is submitted to the student's teacher.
